Al Forthan Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund

This scholarship would not only help me further my educational journey but also alleviate the pain my mom feels from not being able to send me to college. I just want to make my dad proud by being the first of his children to go to university directly after high school, but that would be useless if I am settled with thousands of dollars in debt afterwards.

Knowing addiction runs through my father’s side of the family is just more motivation for me to go to college and achieve my dreams and goals. I want to prove to myself that I am not destined to become addicted to drugs like those before me.

About the Fund

Volunteers of America Oregon, in partnership with an anonymous donor, are establishing an endowment to support the Al Forthan Memorial Endowed Scholarship in perpetuity. Please consider making a generous one-time or recurring gift to support the creation of this fund. All contributions are tax deductible and will be invested with the Volunteers of America Oregon endowment to produce earnings that can be used to support student recipients indefinitely.

The establishment of a scholarship endowment represents a transformative commitment to education for these students who have faced drug or alcohol abuse in their homes, or who are survivors of domestic violence. This enduring financial source ensures that generations to come will have access to educational opportunities, regardless of their financial circumstances. Endowed funds reflect a visionary investment in human potential, embodying the belief that education is a powerful catalyst for positive change. Our initial goal for this scholarship is to raise $100,000 total.
