I applied for the Al Forthan Scholarship because volunteer work and speaking out about social justice issues have been an important part of my life. I want to use my story to bring awareness to not only drug and alcohol abuse but also the immense privilege I have as a white woman.
College is expensive!! And as a low-income kid with a single mom, money in our house always goes to bills. This scholarship is one huge step to getting my college paid for and hopefully starting my life out debt-free. I have been accepted to the University of Hawai’i Hilo to study biology, and this will put me on the path to a job in conservation! Thank you all so much for investing in me and giving me this opportunity!
