Volunteers of America Oregon has made the difficult decision to close the Women’s Residential Center.
After a thorough review, it was determined that the program needed updating and the current facility required a significant investment of $4-8 million in seismic upgrades, sprinkler systems, HVAC, security systems and more. The cost to do necessary renovations plus the closure of the Multnomah University campus, reduction in support services, and shared infrastructure contributed to this decision.
Clients still in need of treatment were transitioned to other facilities.
The work done in our treatment center has been deeply meaningful and we thank our staff for their commitment to our mission and the women and children we supported. All other VOA Oregon programs remain open and focused on serving the tens of thousands of individuals and families as they heal from addiction, violence, and poverty.
