Mask Making Help Needed

With the current situation of COVID-19 our programs are working to provide services to those in the community during this time. For some programs this means providing services remotely. Others, like our residential centers are still providing face-to-face care. Due to the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE), we need homemade masks for our front-line staff. If you have time and materials, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

How to Make a Mask

There are so many tutorials available that it can be confusing. Below is a link to a simple tutorial. The first video shows instructions using elastic, but there is a written tutorial using ties made from fabric.  (Elastic can be hard to find these days.) Twill tape or premade bias tape makes great ties as well. Please use 100% cotton woven fabric for the face portion, such as quilting cotton, cotton flannel or cotton batik.  Please wash and machine dry the fabric you intend to use. These masks will be washed many times in the future. If you, or someone in your home is sick with something contagious, please do not make masks until everyone is well for two weeks.

How to Donate

You can mail or drop off your masks at our administrative offices located at 3910 SE Stark St, Portland OR 97214. If you would like for us to pick up the masks, please contact Camille McDaniel at 971-806-0633.

Please place your masks in a clean plastic or paper bag and include a piece of paper with your name, address, phone number and email address.

Thank you for considering this important service to our program staff during this challenging time.
