A message from Our CEO Regarding our Glisan Street Site:
Volunteers
of America Oregon (VOA Oregon) was recently approached by the City of Portland about
the short-term use of our site on Northeast Glisan Street for a possible
homeless encampment. Despite recent media reports, these discussions remain
preliminary and no agreement has been signed.
As a
mission-driven organization dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their
lives and reach their full potential, VOA Oregon is committed to addressing the
homeless crisis and working with the city to find solutions. However, before formalizing
any lease agreement, we need to conduct a thorough review of the proposed
operational plans and assess their potential impact on residents, neighbors,
and the community at large.
It’s
also important to note that our long-term plan for the Northeast Glisan site remains
utilizing it as our future headquarters and treatment center. Any potential
short-term lease of the site would not affect our commitment to this vision.
We understand that there are many questions and concerns about this issue, and we will provide additional information in the coming days. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through this process.
