Who can apply

You may apply if you are a graduating high school senior who has been affected by addiction—either through a parent or guardian’s experience or through your own experience with addiction and recovery.

Applicants must live in Oregon. Children of graduates of Volunteers of America Oregon’s Men’s Residential Center may apply even if they live outside Oregon.

Scholarship awards

One student will receive a $10,000 scholarship, paid in four annual installments of $2,500. Additional scholarships are awarded in varying amounts.

Students who wish to be considered for the $10,000 scholarship must arrange for a one-page letter of support to be emailed by their recommender to scholarship@voaor.org by the application deadline. You can still be considered for other awards if you do not submit a letter.

Before you apply

The application includes questions about your background, activities and responsibilities, and written responses. Share only what you are comfortable sharing. You do not need to describe graphic details or provide medical or treatment records. We encourage you to focus on how your experiences have affected you, the strengths and support you have drawn on, and what you hope to do next.

The online application is the preferred way to apply. If you need a paper copy, you may download and complete the printable application, then email your completed materials to scholarship@voaor.org by the deadline.
