Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders: When Having a Baby Sucks

Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Disorders: When Having a Baby Sucks

With Susanne Klawetter, PhD, LCSW & Sara Carmona, LCSW, PMH-C

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) impact families across all domains of identity including gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, ability, and socioeconomic position. The lack of knowledge and the stigma associated with PMADs contribute to parents’ experiences of shame and inability to receive critically needed support. Without this support, parents may face unnecessary and dangerous suffering with short and long-term negative impacts for parents, children, and families. This workshop is for all providers working with people of reproductive age and will focus on identifying the signs/symptoms of PMADs, understanding barriers to accessing support, developing skills to talk about these experiences, and connecting families to resources.
