May 22 - The Al Forthan Memorial Scholarship Training Series Presents: Opiate Use and Abuse in Oregon: Understanding and Addressing the Epidemic, Dr Rachel
Solotaroff, MD, MCR. Dr. Solotaroff is Medical Director at Central City Concern and
Assistant Professor at Oregon Health and Science University. According
to statistics from the State Medical Examiner’s Office heroin-related
deaths in Portland are at the highest they have been since 2000,
and prescription opiate misuse and abuse is also at epidemic proportions in
our state. In this training, Dr. Solotaroff will provide a broad
overview of opiate misuse and abuse in Oregon, including the
epidemiology, neurobiology, and natural history of opiate addiction.
She will also illustrate the convergence of opiate addiction with other
clinical conditions and social determinants of health including trauma,
chronic pain and brain injury. The session will conclude by exploring
new and evidence-based approaches to treating opiate addiction in both
the primary care and behavioral health settings. Click on the link to register.
