Groups

If you’re looking for a one-time or episodic project, for yourself or your group, we specialize in hosting direct-service volunteer experiences.  Broaden your perspective and make a lasting impact by bringing laughter and new experiences to the children, families, and elders in our community.

We hosted nearly 60 one-time projects last year, which received terrific reviews from volunteers for how fun and organized our events are, from staff for how much generosity and enthusiasm the volunteers bring, and from clients who feel touched that people in the Portland community want to spend time with them.

Current Projects

There are several great ways that your group can bring a sense of value and belonging to a parent, child, or elder experiencing isolation and transition:

Intergenerational Activities
:  Join our Activity Coordinator in sharing crafting, music, art, and gardening activities with elders and preschoolers from our Family Relief Nursery on the third Tuesday of every month at the Lambert House Adult Day Center.

Contact Volunteer Services to sign up as an individual for our 3rd Tuesday projects, or to schedule a full or half-day of activities for elders just for your small group!

Memory Books:  Schedule a half-weekday for your team to create memory books for toddlers and preschoolers from our Family Relief Nursery so they can have their very own keepsake to remember their friends after graduating.  All materials and training provided!  Contact Volunteer Services to schedule your group!

Gift Drives
:  Individuals and groups of any size can support our programs through hosting drives for vital supplies needed by the children, families and elders we serve.  This flexible project is great for a company team project or for family bonding.  Contact Volunteer Services for participating program wish lists and tips.

What you can expect:
  • The tools, training, and support you need for a sense of accomplishment.
  • Knowledge about what Volunteers of America does, how the program you are working with is changing lives, and how your service benefits our community.
  • An understanding of how you can continue to make a difference, even after your project is complete.

We specialize in fun team-building for small corporate groups, that works with your goals, shows how a few hours make a lasting impact, and provides participants tangible ways to stay engaged in their community.
