The Parenting Program provides individual and group support to over 400 families each year who are referred by the Oregon Department of Human Services/Child Welfare due to child abuse or neglect. Participants learn to foster stronger families and safer communities for their children.
Sixty per-cent of participating families have lost their children to foster care. After attending two ten-week interactive educational modules, parents come away better equipped to take care of themselves, manage their families and with a greater likelihood of bringing the children back into their homes sooner. The sessions cover such relevant topics as practicing better communication skills, understanding addictions, feelings and behavior, how to reinforce positive actions plus much more.
Operating in parallel with the Parenting Program is Alcohol and Drug Outreach where parents are counseled on the dangers of drug abuse and given the necessary moral support and on-going assistance necessary to change their lifestyles and habits.
