Volunteers of America Oregon’s first annual “Caring for Our Seniors” Breakfast Fundraiser, held on April 30, 2008, raised funds to benefit VOA Oregon’s two Adult Day Centers. Approximately 300 people attended the event, which featured a short film spotlighting Lambert House and the Marie Smith Center and the vital services they offer to elderly adults and their families.
Guests also heard from caregivers about their experiences caring for elderly relatives and the remarkable, positive difference their participation in the Adult Day Centers has made in their lives.
VOA Oregon’s Adult Day Centers are unique and innovative programs that provide personalized services and stimulating daily activities to frail elderly and disabled adults, promoting independence while offering respite for caregivers. There are currently an estimated 420,000 caregivers in Oregon – comprising 11% of the state’s population – and the need for safe, compassionate services to care for the elderly will only increase in coming years.
VOA Oregon’s Adult Day Centers are leading the way with the first and only adult day service programs in the state of Oregon accredited by CARF, the Commission on Accreditation Rehabilitation Facilities. Funds raised from the event will directly benefit these crucial programs.
